ABOUT THE SHEEP
As I am searching for the almost “pre-conscious” innocence and transformation, known under the concept of apperception, I am trusting the moment to reveal itself. Sheep of Atina first came to me through the sounds of Jude Cowan Montague’s song about the local shepherd Livio, composed in the previous year.
The vision of randomly moving sheep marked, as if branded, by colour, and thus altered with some unique visual features, creating serendipitous patterns on the hills as they graze, seemed just a perfectly posed question on the subject of communication.
But…
The reality was so much different. After days of desperately looking for sheep and then trying to win their confidence with bananas, and numerous other tricks, the work brought some unexpected discoveries that became the features of this video “Sheep and their sense of colour”. It became a work on inter-species communication, and serendipitous encounters.
Special thanks to Atina’s glass artist Tonino Simeone, a local farmer Orazio Coppola, and Orazio Ricardi.
