Artist Statement

Jean-Marie Guyaux is a Belgian digital artist/photographer based in Palma de Mallorca, Spain following over forty years mostly spent in New York City, USA, where he produced advertising and editorial works. (A pdf portfolio is available upon request). In 2015, J-M started to focus on the fascinating domain of Digital Art where the digital code of an image is subverted through the alchemy of algorithms. Iconic images of celebrities, Americana, and even masterpieces of the arts could be turned into mystifying re-interpretation of the visual imprinted in one’s memory. The resulting imagery is a blend of humorous cultural inspiration and commentary filtered through the alchemy of algorithms. A process referred to as Digi-Pop, a synthesis of Neo-Pop and Glitch Art. J-M’s digital renderings have been extensively curated and exhibited in over thirty galleries spanning the East and West coasts of the US. In Europe, his artworks were viewed in Bologna, Barcelona, Zurich, and Palma de Mallorca. In 2017 J-M was honored with a solo exhibition entitled Digi-Pop at Attitude 99 Gallery in Brussels, Belgium. J-M’s videos have played in Copenhagen and Zagreb where they were included in The Wrong Biennale of 2017, ’18, and ’19.
